What type of commodity OFDC is trading after ban on tree felling?

OFDC is currently trading in Timber (salvage from forest), Sal Seed purchased from the primary collector, Kendu leaf collected and processed by the forest department, Bamboo extracted from forest by Raw Material Procurer (RMP), Rubber tapped by the OFDC staff and few items of NTFP.
Does OFDC under take the task of purchasing NTFP from primary gatherers?

Currently OFDC is not purchasing any NTFP items except Sal Seed. How ever there is a proposal to purchase few NTFP and Medicinal Plants from Primary collectors and market them.
What is the role of forest officer who come on deputation to OFDC?

Officer who come on deputation to OFDC are basically on Managerial, Executive and Chief executive post to administer the efficient management of commercial activities of OFDC.Currently there are Eight IFS officers and Two OFS officers deputed to OFDC limited.
How many forest products are nationalized and who is undertaking the task of their collection and marketing?

Currently there are three forest products namely Kendu Leaf, Sal Seed and Bamboo are the nationalized by Odisha Government. The Trading of these Items are done by the OFDC and TDCC Ltd.

OFDC is having a cadre's strength of nearly four thousand employees comprising all grades and efforts have been taken to drastically reduce their number to avoid financial crisis.
What is the difference between OFDC and TDCC?

OFDC and TDCC both are the semi government organizations of Odisha Government. OFDC is involved in trading of Timber and Non Timber Forest Product where as TDCC is involved mainly on Non Timber Forest product.
What are the initiatives from OFDC for promotion of medicinal plants?

Since last three years the OFDC has taken a number of steps to Document, Educate, Train and Create awareness amongst the various stake holders of NTFP and Medicinal Plants for efficient collection, commercial growing, scientific processing and systematic marketing through a project funded by National Medicinal Plant Board, Government of India.

Yes, OFDC make all effort to provide information on marketing of NTFP and Medicinal Plant to all those who are interested to enter this venture and efforts are also being made to tie up with various traders.

The average selling price in Odisha during last working session for Sal Seed, Bamboo and kendu Leaf is as below:
  • Sal Seed - Rs 4,400 per metric tonne
  • Bamboo - Rs 1,600 per metric tonne
  • Kendu leaf - Rs 4,500 per quintal
Can it be possible to do trading of Forest Product through Internet?

Yes. One can do trading of forest products with OFDC through Internet. It is also proposed that to develop the system for online trading of forest products in near future.
